Gajar Ka Halwa

Sweet dishes are an integral part of Indian culture. It is famously said when we have guests home “Moonh meetha to karte jaayiye” which implies how can one leave your home without having anything sweet. Any special occasion or event is incomplete without delicious desserts in the menu. Happiness over a good news or someone’s achievement is also shared by distributing sweets. One of the most popular Indian sweet dishes liked by one and all is Gajar ka Halwa (Carrot Pudding). This Gajar ka Halwa recipe is perfect for you if you have a sweet tooth!

Gajar Ka HalwaIngredients:

  • Carrot(Gajar) – 1 Kg(red and fresh)
  • Sugar- 250 gms.
  • Milk – 2 litres
  • Melted Ghee – 2 to 3 tablespoons
  • Few pieces of Pista for garnishing

Servings: 6 persons

Preparation Time: 15 mins

Cooking Time: 60 mins

Method

Grate the carrots after washing and scraping them.

Soak pista in water for five minutes. Chop and keep aside.

Boil milk in a large size heavy bottomed pan or kadhai.

Once milk starts boiling, add grated carrot and cook it on medium heat. Keep stirring frequently till the milk becomes thick.

Add ghee and sauté for 3-4 minutes. Mix sugar now and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.

Garnish with chopped pista and serve hot. Some people prefer cold Gajar ka Halwa so you can refrigerate after the halwa cools down.
